Art + Wellbeing Series(Lakeshore Arts + Workman Arts)
My Role: Assistant Facilitator
The Satellite Program is a Workman Arts initiative delivered in partnership with Lakeshore Arts, offering community art workshops in mixed media across multiple sessions. The same program structure was brought to two different communities: one series at Arts Etobicoke with residents of Mabelle Avenue, and one at a Toronto Community Housing building on Islington Avenue.
Each week featured a different medium led by Carmen Ocampo — watercolour, clay, and collage — so participants could try a range of materials over the course of the series.
As assistant facilitator, I owned the opening and closing of every session. Each workshop began with a singing bowl meditation and breathing exercise before the art-making, and ended with a short reflection and breathing exercise to land the session. In between, I supported participants through their art-making, welcomed people into the space, and handled setup and cleanup.
Working alongside Carmen was also a chance to observe and learn from an experienced lead facilitator's practice — and it deepened my own capacity to hold space through mindfulness within community arts settings.
